History of DIET, Angul

The National Policy on Education,1986 necessitated the inception of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in all districts across the country. In 1989, the DIETs were set up conforming to the vision set by the NPE 1986. In fact, DIETs became the premier Teacher Education Institute for elementary level at district tier.
Apart from instilling knowledge, skill, attitude, behaviour and values in the prospective and in-service teacher, the DIETs have also been underpropping the education system by extension activities and research work. At present, a paradigm shift has been brought about in teacher education through the five key activities of the DIET.
DIET Angul at Chhendipada is one of the leading TEIs in Odisha. Formerly it was an ET school. In due course of time it became a Secondary Training School and subsequently on 25th May 2005 it was upgraded to DIET. It has a beautiful campus with five Departments. The student -teachers of this institute have proved excellence by securing positions and placements. The cohesiveness among the faculty members under the dynamic leadership of the principal has been the essence of the institute and everyone is obliged to uphold the dignity of the DIET. After going through the underlying features on the backdrop of the institute, there is no reason why a student-teacher will opt out this DIET.

To improve the quality of elementary school education conforming to the enshrined constitutional values and focusing on emerging contemporary issues.
To innovate and evolve ways and means that befits the current trends in elementary school education.
To facilitate and enable student-teachers to flourish by helping them develop their knowledge, skills and abilities.
To capacitate the student-teachers to adapt and thrive in increasingly diverse and dynamic world.
To prepare school teachers who are familiar with ICT mediation and integration in teaching learning process.
To inspire the school teachers to ensure their professional development by becoming lifelong learners.
To make the school teachers imbibe the professional ethics,morale, ideals etc. in line with the rich cultural heritage of Indian society
To provide need-based academic support to the in-service elementary teachers working in the elementary schools of Angul district.
To undertake research, material development, training and extension activities for the holistic development of elementary school education.
To establish linkage between the DIET and CRCs of the district for enhancing quality education in a befitting manner.
To strengthen FLN activities in the district for universal achievement of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy by grade 3 by 2025-26.
To ensure the implementation and monitoring of educational programmes laid down by the Government of Odisha and SCERT.
